Mr. S.R. Insanally, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Guyana, and former Ambassador to Japan, received one of the highest national decorations of Japan, the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun, on Thursday 14 January, 2010.
The award was presented in recognition of the contributions that Mr. Insanally has made to the good relations between Japan and the Republic of Guyana.
Mr. Insanally is the first Caribbean National to receive the Order of the Rising Sun which was established in 1875. The national decoration, which is only awarded at the Ministerial level, was presented Mr. Insanally in Georgetown, Guyana.

The Hon. Insanally is a former permanent representative of Guyana to the United Nations and President of the 48th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
He is currently the Special Advisor to the President on Foreign Affairs.
